TORCH LIGHTING A SPECIAL EVENT FOR SPECIAL OLYMPICS PARTICIPANTS

The Law Enforcement Torch Run held its Special Olympics Torch Lighting ceremony on the steps of the State Capitol May 29. About 100 uniformed officers and another 100 special Olympians were present, including Jessica Parsons of Holt who was selected to light this year's "Flame of Hope."

The Michigan Department of Corrections continues to be the largest single contributor to the Torch Run charity campaign. Director Patricia Caruso reinforced the importance of Special Olympics and the MDOC's continued commitment to the LETR campaign, saying that it has been adopted as our Department-wide charity for several years now, with no plans to change that designation.

About 20 MDOC staff were present, including the Honor Guard, who performed presentation of the colors for the event.
