Meals On Wheels

Meals on Wheels is a private, non-profit, volunteer-based service that:

  • Delivers nutritious meals to homebound persons, enabling them to maintain their independence and continue to live in their own homes.
  • Provides daily contact with a trained volunteer who provides important social interaction and a link to the community.
  • Gives important referral information for other appropriate community resources as needed.

The meals are delivered to homebound persons of any age, race or economic status who are unable to shop or prepare meals for themselves.   This can include persons who are ill, recently hospitalized or disabled.

One well-balanced meal is delivered daily, Monday through Friday, at midday and service can begin within a few days of application.  The minimum service is one week (five days).  Monthly letters are sent to each participant detailing the cost of the meal.  Although contributions toward this amount are encouraged, no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

For information on having Meals on Wheels delivered or volunteering for delivering meals, contact your local Meals on Wheels office.
