The Office of Monitoring and Internal Controls (OMIC) is responsible for the Department's biennial assessment process and internal controls structure. This Office performs all DHS audit liaison functions; reviews contracted agency's audit reports and administers the DHS audit appeals process. OMIC ensures that resources are utilized as efficiently and effectively as possible to provide DHS management with quality information on the adequacy of internal controls and compliance with rules and regulations in its many offices and throughout its' programs. In addition to OMIC's many functions, they coordinate the Department's corrective action program and oversee the department's sub-recipient monitoring program.
Also, OMIC is currently performing a review of day care provider time and attendance records. The objective of this review is to identify providers that are in non-compliance with program requirements and recommend appropriate corrective actions to address the non-compliance, including and up to termination of the provider as an eligible day care provider. To date, OMIC has requested time and attendance records from over 6000 providers. During fiscal year 2009 alone, this initiative has resulted in an estimated cost avoidance to the State of $5.3 million.
