| Coordination of Committees/Task Forces |
MDVPTB coordinates a number of committees and Task Forces including:
-
Criminal Justice Training Advisory Committee (CJTAC) - The CJTAC consists of representatives from all state partners and meets quarterly to discuss issues of relevance and to coordinate training plans and schedules. In January 1999, CJTAC met with other statewide groups related to the Criminal Justice System to facilitate a roundtable discussion. The goals of the meeting were:
-
To let other statewide groups know what the STOP grants for statewide training are provided through MCOLES, PAAM, MJI, MCADSV and MDVPTB;
-
To find out what other groups are doing related to violence against women; and
-
To identify and examine existing gaps.
-
Services Providers Advisory Committee (SPAC) - This group is jointly sponsored by the MCADSV, MDVPTB's Executive Director, and the VAWTI. Membership consists of service provider representatives elected by their regions. The Committee's role is to serve as an advisory body to the directors of MCADSV, MDVPTB Office and teh VAWTI on various issues as needed.
-
Michigan Domestic Violence Agency Director Meetings - This group meets quarterly for the purpose of information sharing, networking and training and is a joint effort of MCADSV, the MDVPTB Program Office and the VAWTI.
-
Best Practices Committee - This multidisciplinary committee was formed at the recommendation of SPAC to address how to better coordinate quality training for criminal justice personnel in their local communities. The committee has written and is in the final stages of approving the Best Practices Document for police officers, prosecutors and service providers, to use across the state. Additionally, the committee is in the process of creating a 4-day Trainer Academy. The goal of the Academy is to provide intensive training for trainers who provide in-service training for law enforcement, particularly at the local level.
-
Lethality Review Team - Several people from Michigan attended a National Lethality Review Conference in October 1998. The Michigan contingent convened shortly after the conference to debrief on what they had learned. The group chose to meet again in March 1999, PAAM sponsored the presence of Patricia West, of the Philadelphia Fatality Review Team to facilitate the group reviewing a case.
-
Family Violence Task Force - PAAM, with support from Children's Protective Services and the VAWTI, is convening this cross-disciplinary work group. The group met for the first time in February 1999 to begin addressing how to better coordinate system response related to domestic violence and child welfare.
