• Not be working full-time currently 
• Have a benefit year that ended after May 1, 2007, and 
• Have exhausted their unemployment benefits or their benefit year has ended and a new claim cannot be established

Unemployed workers who are receiving regular state unemployment benefits will be mailed instructions and an application as they near the end of their state unemployment claim.

The EUC program offers up to 13 weeks of federally-funded unemployment benefits - half the number of weeks on the individual's most recent unemployment claim. The amount of weekly benefits will be the same as what the individual received on his or her most recent state unemployment claim.

The first week for which EUC benefits can be paid is the week of July 7. UIA will begin issuing benefit payments next week, the week of July 21. Workers who do not receive an application and believe they are eligible for the benefits can call the agency after Friday, July 18, to inquire about their possible eligibility for the federal EUC benefits. Individuals should call the agency's toll-free claims line 1-866-500-0017 and select option #3. 

Cooley pointed out that unemployed workers will also need to register for work or update their resumes either online at www.michworks.org or in person at their nearest Michigan Works! Agency (MWA) office. In either case, workers will need to report in person at an MWA office at least two to three business days before their first call to UIA's MARVIN system to ensure that their information is electronically transmitted to the UIA.

The EUC program will continue to accept EUC claims until March 28, 2009. No payments for EUC benefits will be made for any week ending after July 4, 2009.
