Approval Process to Administer and Enforce Construction Codes
An application for approval to administer and enforce
must be completed when a unit of government is seeking approval to enforce
construction codes locally. The application must be completed in its entirety
and all requested information must accompany the application. Otherwise, the
approval process will be delayed.
The application
and documentation will be reviewed by staff within the bureau's Office of
Local Government and Consumer Services. If it is found that information is
deficient, staff will correspond with the unit of government. Once all information
is reviewed and approved by staff, a notice will be provided indicating the
date the package will be presented to the Construction Code Commission for
formal approval. A unit of government may not begin enforcing the code until
the Commission has approved the request. An enforcement start date will be
determined by the bureau based on the Commission's approval and the appropriate
notification period.
Questions regarding
the application or approval process may be directed to the Office of Local
Government and Consumer Services at 517-241-9347.
