DNR Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Offers U.P. Salmon Fishing Workshop

Contact:  Sharon Pitz 906-228-6561
Agency: Natural Resources

July 16, 2008

The Department of Natural Resources Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) program is offering an advanced level Beyond BOW salmon fishing workshop, Aug. 22-24, out of the Fairport Marina at the tip of the Garden Peninsula in Delta County. Fishing will take place in northern Lake Michigan.

Salmon fishing on the Great Lakes requires some special knowledge and skills, but it can be one of the most exciting fishing experiences. The first fishing trip will depart the marina Friday evening with other trips planned for Saturday and on Sunday morning.

The $150 registration cost includes two nights lodging, Saturday evening dinner, boats, guides and all fishing equipment. Participants must have a valid all species fishing license or a 24-hour fishing license for each day they plan to fish. Fishing licenses must be purchased before arriving in Fairport. Enrollment is limited to nine participants. For more information and the registration form, visit the DNR Web site at www.michigan.gov/bow. A map and other information are available on that site.

Questions regarding the workshop can be directed to Sharon Pitz at (906) 228-6561 or to DNR BOW Program Coordinator Lynn Marla at (517) 241-2225.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources
for current and future generations.
