LANSING – First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern today called on community leaders in Saginaw to mentor a child. Mulhern spoke to a group of 150-200 business, government, and education leaders at the annual meeting for Saginaw Vision 2020.
The First Gentleman, who is spearheading the administration’s Mentor Michigan initiative, spoke to the group about mentoring, leadership, and vision.
“One of the greatest things we can do as leaders is to give back to our community; there is no better way than to help shape the life of a child,” said Mulhern. “Caring adults need no special skills or extraordinary amount of free time to offer guidance, advice, and compassion to a young person.”
Mr. Mulhern, as first gentleman and chair of the Michigan Community Service Commission, has led the Mentor Michigan initiative to recruit mentors for every child who would like to spend time with a caring, responsible individual. For more information on mentoring in Michigan, see the Mentor Michigan Web site at www.mentormichigan.org.
Saginaw Vision 2020 is a countywide community improvement project focused on helping the Saginaw region address issues such as education, land use, and the environment.
