My children need health insurance. I have a job, but my employer doesn't provide coverage and I can't afford to buy private insurance. Where can I get information regarding our eligibility for coverage?

Answer:
Your children may be eligible for the MiChild health insurance program. MIChild is for uninsured children of Michigan's working families. To qualify, children must:
  • Be citizens of the U.S. (some legal immigrants qualify)
  • Live in Michigan, even for a short time
  • Be under 19 years old
  • Have no health insurance
  • Live in a family with monthly income of about (or less):
$1,800 for a family of two
$2,300 for a family of three
$2,800 for a family of four
$3,200 for a family of five
Coverage will cost $5 per family per month, for a total of $60 per year. Click on this link for an application form that you can print and fill out. Applications are also available from most community human services agencies or by calling: 1-888-988-6300 Families need only fill out a short MIChild application. Submit the application with proof of income (for example, copies of the previous year's W-2, a recent check stub or recent bank statements).
