Governor Granholm Appoints Members to Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointment to the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards: 

Ronald J. Bretz of Lansing, professor at Thomas M. Cooley Law School.  Mr. Bretz is appointed to represent individuals submitted by the Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan for a term expiring November 1, 2007.  He succeeds Douglas Mullkoff whose term has expired. 

The Governor also announces the following recent reappointments to the Commission:

James D. Bosscher of McBain, sheriff for Missaukee County.  Mr. Bosscher is reappointed to represent elected sheriffs submitted by the Michigan Sheriffs’ Association for a term expiring November 1, 2007.

David L. Morse of Howell, prosecuting attorney for the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office.  Mr. Morse is reappointed to represent individuals submitted by the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Association of Michigan for a term expiring November 1, 2007.

Jeffrey D. Werner of Orchard Lake, chief of police for the Bloomfield Township Police Department.  Mr. Werner is reappointed to represent individuals submitted by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police for a term expiring November 1, 2007.
 
The Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards serves as the oversight commission for all law enforcement and criminal justice training funds in Michigan.  Their main focus is on professionalism, formal in-service training, and number of officers receiving training, as well as the institution of law enforcement training standards, implementation of a web-based information system available to all law enforcement officials, and award training grants that advance the objectives of the commission. 
 
The appointment and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
