LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Community Service Commission: 

Michael P. Flanagan of Lansing, Michigan Superintendent of Public Instruction.  Superintendent Flanagan is appointed to represent the Superintendent of Public Instruction for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Janet L. Lawson of Troy, director of Ford Volunteer Corps with Ford Motor Company.  Ms. Lawson is appointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2009.  She succeeds Pamela Faris who has resigned. 

Robert Collier of Grand Rapids, president and CEO of the Council of Michigan Foundations.  Mr. Collier is reappointed to represent community-based agencies for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Jimmie E. Comer of Farmington Hills, president of North American Joint Ventures and Diversity with Lear Corporation.  Mr. Comer is reappointed to represent business for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Christine M. Kwak of Battle Creek, program director for the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.  Ms. Kwak is reappointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Daniel G. Mulhern of Lansing, first gentleman of the state of Michigan, and chair of the MCSC.  Mr. Mulhern is reappointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Bernard F. Parker of Detroit, Wayne County Commissioner.  Mr. Parker is reappointed to represent local government for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Alphonso Swain of Haslett, associate director of the Capital Area Center for Independent Living.  Mr. Swain is reappointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Michael D. Thomas of Saginaw, Saginaw County prosecuting attorney.  Mr. Thomas is reappointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Kathy Young-Welch of Southfield, vice president of the Commercial Drivers License (CDL) School.  Ms. Young-Welch is reappointed to represent experts in the delivery of human, educational, environmental, or public safety services to communities and persons for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

The Michigan Community Service Commission is a bipartisan state agency charged with funding and supporting programs to encourage Michigan residents to volunteer. The commission is chaired by First Gentleman Daniel G. Mulhern.  
 
These appointments and reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
