Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Occupational Health Standards Commission and the Michigan Environmental Science Board:

Occupational Health Standards Commission

James B. Cianciolo of Woodhaven, president of Teamsters Local Union No. 243.  Mr. Cionciolo is appointed to represent labor for a term expiring August 5, 2008.

Andrew J. Comai of Ann Arbor, industrial hygienist for International Union, UAW.  Mr. Comai is appointed to represent labor for a term expiring August 5, 2008.  He succeeds Margaret Vissman whose term has expired.

Ricardo L. Longoria of Saginaw, training and safety officer with the Saginaw Fire Department.  Mr. Longoria is reappointed to represent public employees of the state for a term expiring August 5, 2008.

John E. Miller of Kawkawlin, Bay County Sheriff.  Sheriff Miller is reappointed to represent public employers for a term expiring August 5, 2008.

The Occupational Health Standards Commission assists the Division of Occupational Health within the Department of Labor and Economic Growth in developing occupational health standards.
 
These appointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Michigan Environmental Science Board

Michael Barcelona, Ph.D. of Marshall, chairperson and professor with the Department of Chemistry at Western Michigan University.  Dr. Barcelona is reappointed to represent individuals with expertise in chemistry for a term expiring August 6, 2009.

Gerald Keeler, Ph.D. of Ann Arbor, professor with Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the University of Michigan.  Dr. Keeler is reappointed to represent individuals with expertise in atmospheric sciences for a term expiring August 6, 2009.

Nicholas Mercuro, Ph.D. of Okemos, professor in residence at Michigan State University’s Detroit College of Law.  Dr. Mercuro is reappointed to represent individuals with expertise in economics for a term expiring August 6, 2009.

Joan Bray Rose, Ph.D. of Williamston, Homer Nowlin Endowed Chair for Water Research and Natural Resource Systems with the College of Agriculture at Michigan State University.  Dr. Rose is reappointed to represent individuals with expertise in microbiology for a term expiring August 6, 2009.

The Michigan Environmental Science Board is an independent state agency established to provide scientific and technical advice to the governor on matters affecting the protection and management of the environmental and natural resources in the state.
 
These reappointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
