Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments the Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs and the Library of Michigan Board of Trustees:

Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs

Jose L.R. Reyna of Grand Rapids, assistant to the city manager in the city of Grand Rapids.  Mr. Reyna is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 10, 2009.

Dr. Maria Del Carmen Soto of Jackson, physician with the Michigan Family Practice of Jackson.  Dr. Soto is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 10, 2009.

Danette R. Duron-Willner of Wixom, corporate manager of EEO with Kelly Services, Inc.  Ms. Duron-Willner is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 10, 2009.

The Commission on Spanish Speaking Affairs was created by Public Act 164 of 1975 to develop policies and plans to serve the needs of Michigan's Spanish-speaking residents.  The commission consists of 15 members from around the state appointed by the governor, who are of Hispanic descent and are Spanish-speaking.
 
These reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  The reappointments stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

Library of Michigan Board of Trustees

Charles R. Myers of Lowell, mayor of the city of Lowell.  Mr. Myers is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring October 1, 2008.  He succeeds Frances H. Pletz whose term has expired.

Michael O. Smith of Redford, director of the Walter P. Reuther Library at Wayne State University.  Mr. Smith is appointed to represent librarians from a college or university library for a term expiring October 1, 2008.  He succeeds Clifford H. Haka whose term has expired.

Barbara D. Bartlett of Traunik, library media director for Superior Central Public Schools.  Ms. Bartlett is reappointed to represent librarians from a public or private K-12 system for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

Elaine M. Logan of Ann Arbor, director of information management for Pfizer Michigan Laboratories.  Ms. Logan is reappointed to represent librarians from a special library for a term expiring October 1, 2009.

The Library of Michigan Board of Trustees makes recommendations on the budget, general policies, and services of the Library of Michigan.  The board also proposes rules that govern the operations of the library.

These appointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
