Governor Granholm Makes Appointment, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointment and reappointments to the Natural Resources Commission, the State Transportation Commission, and the Michigan Onion Marketing Program Committee:
 
Natural Resources Commission

Rev. Hurley J. Coleman of Saginaw, pastor of greater Coleman Temple of God in Christ.  Reverend Coleman is appointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring December 31, 2007.  He succeeds Gerald R. Hall who has resigned.

The Natural Resources Commission establishes general policies for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and hires the director of the department.  The commission is also vested with the exclusive authority to regulate the taking of game in Michigan.
 
State Transportation Commission

Linda M. Atkinson of Channing, partner with Nelson, Petruska, Atkinson & Hart, P.C. law firm.  Ms. Atkinson is reappointed to represent Democrats for a term expiring December 21, 2009.

Vincent J. Brennan of Grosse Pointe Park, vice president of Everest Energy.  Mr. Brennan is reappointed to represent Independents for a term expiring December 21, 2009.

The State Transportation Commission is a bipartisan group that establishes policies for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), its programs and facilities, and other public works of the state as provided by law. Responsibilities of the commission include developing and implementing comprehensive transportation plans for the state, providing professional and technical assistance to MDOT, and overseeing the administration of state and federal funds allocated for these programs.
 
Michigan Onion Marketing Program Committee

Bruce J. Klamer of Byron Center, president of V & W Farms Inc.  Mr. Klamer is reappointed to represent growers at-large for a term expiring August 16, 2009.

Gregg J, Krikke of Decatur, president of K & V Celery Farms, Inc.  Mr. Krikke is reappointed to represent growers at-large for a term expiring August 16, 2009.

The Michigan Onion Marketing Program Committee is responsible for increasing the utilization of Michigan onions through market development, promotion, and research.
 
This appointment and these reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
