Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following appointments to the Michigan Women's Commission and reappointments to the State Police Retirement Board:

Michigan Women's Commission

Mary Alice Williams of Grand Rapids, retired president and CEO of Arbor Circle Group and member of the Progressive Women's Alliance Board.  Ms. Williams is appointed for a term expiring July 15, 2009.  She succeeds Maria Ladas Hoopes who has resigned.

The Michigan Women's Commission, housed within the Michigan Department of Civil Rights, focuses on improving quality of life for women in the state by studying and reviewing the status of Michigan women; directing attention to critical issues that women face; recommending methods to overcome discrimination; promoting methods for women to develop their skills; conducting surveys and establishing advisory committees on vital issues; and recognizing the accomplishments of women in Michigan.

This appointment is subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  It stands confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.

State Police Retirement Board

Richard M. Hale of Charlotte, sergeant and firearms inspector for the Michigan State Police.  Sgt. Hale is reappointed to represent officer members of the retirement system having the rank of sergeant or below for a term expiring December 31, 2009.

Sally Corbin of Okemos, insurance agent for Union Service, Inc.  Ms. Corbin is reappointed to represent the general public with experience in the insurance, actuarial, or institutional investment fields for a term expiring December 31, 2009.

The State Police Retirement Board oversees the State Police Retirement System within the Michigan Department of Management and Budget and the Office of Retirement Services.
 
These reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.
