Governor Granholm Makes Appointments, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the following recent appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Long-Term Care Supports and Services Advisory Commission, the Michigan Board of Counseling, the Michigan Board of Medicine, the Michigan Historical Commission, and the State Board of Accountancy:

Michigan Long-Term Care Supports and Services Advisory Commission

Connie L. Fuller of Rock, member of the Stephenson Chamber of Commerce.  Ms. Fuller is appointed to represent primary or secondary consumers of long-term care supports and services for a term expiring December 31, 2008.  She succeeds the late James E. Francis-Bohr.

The Michigan Long-Term Care Supports and Services Advisory Commission was created as an advisory body within the Michigan Department of Community Health, and serves as a forum for the discussion of issues related to the provision of long-term care supports and services in Michigan.
 
This appointment is not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Board of Counseling

Marion D. Turowski of Troy, owner of Somerset Counseling Center, PC.  Ms. Turowski is appointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in the administration of counseling services for a term expiring June 30, 2009.  She succeeds the late Jack L. Cloud.

Stuart G. Itzkowitz Ph.D. of Grosse Pointe Park, university counselor and senior lecturer at Wayne State University Department of Counseling.  Dr. Itzkowitz is reappointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in providing counseling techniques, behavior modification techniques, or preventative techniques to clients for a term expiring June 30, 2011.

Delila L. Owens, Ph.D. of Royal Oak, assistant professor of counselor education at Wayne State University.  Dr. Owens is reappointed to represent individuals engaged primarily in teaching, training, or research in counseling for a term expiring June 30, 2011.

The Michigan Board of Counseling is responsible for the licensure and examination of professional counselors in the state prior to their entry in the practice of counseling.  The board also has the authority to take disciplinary action against licensees who have adversely affected the health, safety, or welfare of the public.

Michigan Board of Medicine

William H. Fenn of Kalamazoo, professor at Western Michigan University.  Mr. Fenn is reappointed to represent physician assistants for a term expiring December 31, 2010.

Michael K. Helmer of Bloomfield Hills, executive consultant for GDI InfoTech, Inc.  Mr. Helmer is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring December 31, 2009.

The Michigan Board of Medicine is responsible for the examination and licensing of persons prior to their entry into the practice of allopathic medicine in Michigan.  The board also establishes minimal standards of acceptable practice and assesses penalties when those standards are not met, and recommends licensure to schools or individuals once the designated exam, created by the board, is passed.

Michigan Historical Commission

John M. Dempsey of Plymouth, member and partner at Dickinson Wright, PLLC.  Mr. Dempsey is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 21, 2010.  He succeeds Douglas B. Roberts whose term has expired.

James A. McConnell of Livonia, history education consultant.  Mr. McConnell is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 21, 2011.  He succeeds Steven K. Hamp whose term has expired.

Judith L. Tappero of Bloomfield Hills, associate at Phoenix Homes.  Ms. Tappero is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 21, 2009.  She succeeds Keith Molin whose term has expired.

Samuel Logan of Detroit, publisher and part owner of the Michigan Chronicle.  Mr. Logan is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 21, 2008.

The Michigan Historical Commission is charged with advising the director of the Michigan Department of History, Arts, and Libraries, approving Michigan historical markers, and working to preserve and protect Michigan's history.

State Board of Accountancy

Neil F. De Boer of Holland, member of De Boer, Baumann & Company.  Mr. De Boer is appointed to represent certified public accountants for a term commencing July 1, 2007 and expiring June 30, 2011.  He will succeed Robert S. Sher whose term expires June 30, 2007.

Sally Fedus of Plymouth, retired.  Ms. Fedus is reappointed to represent the general public for a term commencing July 1, 2007 and expiring June 30, 2011.

The State Board of Accountancy is responsible for the certification, registration, and licensing of certified public accountants and the regulation of the practice of public accounting by individuals, firms, and corporations.
 
These appointments and reappointments are subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Michigan Senate within 60 days.
