Governor Granholm Makes Appointment, Reappointments

LANSING - Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today made the following appointment and reappointments to the Correctional Officers' Training Council, the Utility Consumer Participation Board, the Michigan Aeronautics Commission, the Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee, and the Michigan Cherry Marketing Program Committee:

Correctional Officers' Training Council

Elizabeth A. Foley of Sault Ste. Marie, assistant professor at Lake Superior State University.  Ms. Foley is appointed to represent the general public for a term expiring March 29, 2009.  She succeeds Rudolph Serra whose term has expired.

Avon L. Burns of Flint, professor and coordinator of the criminal justice program at Mott Community College.  Ms. Burns is reappointed to represent the academic community for a term expiring March 29, 2009.

Timothy J. McCormick of Grand Ledge, director of organizational development at the Michigan Department of Management and Budget.  Mr. McCormick is reappointed to represent the Michigan Department of Management and Budget for a term expiring March 29, 2009.

Andrew C. Potter of Lake Odessa, state vice president for the Michigan Corrections Organization.  Mr. Potter is reappointed to represent state corrections officers for a term expiring March 29, 2010.

The Correctional Officers' Training Council establishes standards and requirements regarding the training and education of state and local correctional officers.

Utility Consumer Participation Board

Alexander H. Isaac of Clio, executive director of the American Arab Heritage Council, reappointed for a term expiring January 6, 2009.

Sister Monica Kostielney, R.S.M. of Lansing, president and CEO of the Michigan Catholic Conference, reappointed for a term expiring January 6, 2009.

Ronald F. Rose of Lansing, retired, reappointed for a term expiring January 6, 2009.

Harry M. Trebing of Okemos, retired Michigan State University economics professor, reappointed for a term expiring January 6, 2009.

The Utility Consumer Participation Board ensures equitable representation of the interests of energy utility customers through the awarding and disbursing of grants to local units of government or non-profits seeking to intervene on behalf of the residential ratepayers in gas and electric utilities.
 
This appointment and these reappointments are not subject to disapproval by the Michigan Senate.

Michigan Aeronautics Commission

Terry J. Everman of Flushing, union representative of UAW Local 599.  Mr. Everman is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 27, 2011.

Joseph W. Prochazka of Galesburg, executive vice president and general manager of Duncan Aviation.  Mr. Prochazka is reappointed to represent the general public for a term expiring May 27, 2011.

The Michigan Aeronautics Commission is responsible for the general supervision of all aeronautics within the state.  The commission is empowered by state law to make rules and regulations governing all airports, flight schools, and other aeronautical activities.

Michigan Beef Marketing Program Committee

John Jay VanderBoon of Kalamazoo, director of procurement for Packerland Packing.  Mr. VanderBoon is reappointed to represent meat packing executives for a term expiring May 31, 2010. 

Robert E. DeYoung of Grand Rapids, senior sales and merchandising representative for the meat division of Spartan Stores, Inc.  Mr. DeYoung is reappointed to represent beef retailers for a term expiring May 31, 2010.

Charles E. Markley of Byron, owner of Markley Farms.  Mr. Markley is reappointed to represent cattle feeders for a term expiring May 31, 2010.

Michigan Cherry Marketing Program Committee

Todd M. Fox of Shelby, owner of N J Fox & Sons farm.  Mr. Fox is reappointed to represent District 2 tart cherry growers for a term expiring February 1, 2010.

Daryl K. Peterson of Ludington, president and owner of Bushel Basket Orchards, Inc.  Mr. Peterson is reappointed to represent District 2 sweet cherry growers for at term expiring February 1, 2010.

These reappointments are not subject to Article V, Section 6 of the Michigan State Constitution of 1963.  They stand confirmed unless disapproved by the Senate within 60 days.
