LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today announced the appointment of J. Peter Lark as chair of the Michigan Public Service Commission.
“Peter is one of the state’s most dedicated public servants,” Granholm said. “His appointment brings an assurance that the citizens of Michigan have a voice in issues relating to their utility services.”
Lark, of Okemos, most recently served as an assistant attorney general in charge of the Special Litigation Division of the Michigan Attorney General’s Office where he has served since 1979. Before joining the Attorney General’s Office, he served as assistant prosecuting attorney for Wayne County.
Lark received his law degree from the Western New England College School of Law and holds a bachelor’s of science degree from Boston College.
The Michigan Public Service Commission regulates investor-owned natural gas, electric and telecommunications utilities, rural electrical cooperatives, and interstate motor carriers. The Commission also establishes safety standards and sets specific rates for services provided by the state’s utilities and ensures dependable quality at reasonable rates that meets the public’s needs and maintains a healthy economy for Michigan consumers.
Lark’s appointment, which will become effective on August 4, 2003, is subject to confirmation by the Senate.
