Contact:  Heidi Hansen 517-335-6397

April 30, 2004

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today declared Wednesday, May 5, State Employee Recognition Day in Michigan. The day is part of the May 3-7 Public Service Recognition Week designated by the National Association of State Personnel Executives.

"May 5 marks the day we ‘officially’ recognize the dedication and hard work state employees provide," Granholm said, "but we truly should be celebrating their service every day. We have the hardest working employees who serve our citizens with excellence day in and day out."

As part of Public Service Recognition Week and State Employee Recognition Day, Granholm announced she will host a series of "meet and greets" for state employees at three state office buildings around the state. The events are designed to give the Governor an opportunity to personally meet and thank Michigan’s state employees for their hard work and commitment to service. Meet and greets will be held at the Cadillac Place State Office Building in Detroit, the Jerome T. Hart Building in Saginaw, and the State Office Building in Grand Rapids. For details, visit the Governor’s web site at www.michigan.gov/gov.

"I want the men and women who serve the people of Michigan to know they are my partners in moving Michigan forward," said Granholm. "There is great nobility in the work that state employees do on behalf of Michigan’s citizens, and I simply couldn’t do my job without them."
