Whereas, Michigan's young people make considerable contributions to their communities throughout the state of Michigan every day of the year; and,

Whereas, The skills young people acquire through their service will remain with them their entire lives; and,

Whereas, Millions of young people around the world are participating in youth service projects this year as part of the 19^th annual National and Global Youth Service Day; and,

Whereas, By relating academic activities to real-life experiences, service-learning improves workplace skills and enhances personal development among young people; and,

Whereas, The citizens of Michigan know our young people are a vital asset; and,

Whereas, National Youth Service Day is a public awareness and education campaign that highlights the contributions young people make to their communities; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 25-27, 2008, as Youth Service Days in Michigan.
