Whereas, Graduate Student Appreciation Week, sponsored by the National Association of Graduate and Professional Students, is designed to raise awareness of the role of graduate and professional students within America’s colleges and universities; and,
Whereas, Graduate and professional students in the State of Michigan, through their notable accomplishments and outstanding achievements, have contributed tremendously to the community; and,
Whereas, Graduate and professional students are the future teaching professionals, researchers, and leaders of the state, the nation and the world; and,
Whereas, The universities in the State of Michigan are strengthened by the presence of graduate and professional students; and,
Whereas, There are over 78,000 graduate students in the State of Michigan; and,
Whereas, During the week of April 4, 2005, universities in the State of Michigan will celebrate the contributions of graduate and professional students; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan do hereby proclaim the week of April 4, 2005, as Graduate Student Appreciation Week in Michigan.
