Whereas, Health problems can prevent Michigan citizens from living full, satisfying lives while costing individuals and employers billions of dollars every year; and,
Whereas, According to the Kaiser Foundation, Michigan ranks in the top 10 states for adult incidence of cancer, diabetes diagnosed, prevalence of asthma among adults, obesity, mental illness, and sexually-transmitted diseases; and,
Whereas, Citizens must make a conscious choice to maintain their good health by eating right, exercising, reducing stress, and avoiding substance abuse; and,
Whereas, Participation in Community Health Charity of Michigan’s “Choose Health Week” provides the opportunity to increase awareness of every person’s need to choose health by abandoning bad habits and adopting new, good habits; and,
Whereas, Community Health Charity of Michigan is launching “Choose Health Week” in Michigan as a call-to-action, encouraging people to adopt healthy eating and exercise habits, and urging them to invite family, friends, and neighbors to join them; and now therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of February 20, 2006, as Choose Health Week.
