Whereas, Social workers use their education and experience to guide individuals, families, and communities through complex life issues and choices; and,
Whereas, Social workers connect individuals, families, and communities to available resources; and,
Whereas, Social workers have demonstrated their dedication to improving society and as positive and compassionate professionals; and,
Whereas, Social workers are advocates for others in ensuring everyone has access to the same basic rights, protections, and opportunities; and,
Whereas, Social workers help people help themselves, whenever and wherever they need it the most; and therefore be it,
Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim March 2006, as Professional Social Work Month in Michigan and encourage all citizens to join with the National Association of Social Workers-Michigan Chapter in celebrating and recognizing social workers and their commitment and dedication to individuals, families, and communities.
