Whereas, The financial well-being of American citizens is linked to the nation's economic health; and,

Whereas, Improved financial literacy results in a higher standard of living and more stable communities; and,

Whereas, Becoming financially literate is a long-term process that for many people requires assistance from institutions outside of the home; and,

Whereas, In times of rapidly changing technology, consumers have many choices about how to manage their financial affairs; and,

Whereas, Educational and financial institutions, government entities, and community-based organizations can work together to help consumers make informed choices about their finances; and now therefore be it,

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim April 2007, as Money Smart Month in Michigan and I encourage all citizens to take advantage of programs and activities geared toward financial management and prosperity all year long.
