Public Health Week

 

Whereas, Public Health Week 2007 provides an excellent opportunity for Michigan citizens to learn more about public health preparedness and to show support for the numerous organizations and individuals who strive for a healthier Michigan; and,

 

Whereas, Michigan's public health system is dedicated to protecting its citizens' health including working to minimize health treats caused by terrorist acts, accidents, infectious diseases, pandemic influenza, natural disasters and other accidents; and,

 

Whereas, The 100th anniversary of the state's public health laboratory - the second oldest in the United States - is an occasion to celebrate the valuable contributions made to protect public health by our state laboratorians throughout this past century; and,

 

Whereas, Michigan's public system incorporates and relies on a broad array of partners to be successful including; the Michigan Department of Community Health, the Michigan Association for Local Public Health, the Michigan Public Health Institute, the Michigan Public Health Association, Michigan State University, the University of Michigan School of Public Health, local health departments, tribal organization and many community partners; and,

 

Whereas, Many departments in state government work together to protect the health and safety of Michigan citizens during times of emergency including the Michigan State Police, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Environmental Quality; and,

 

Whereas, Local health departments and tribal organizations have been collaborating with state and federal agencies since 2002 to strengthen the capacity to respond to a public health emergency in Michigan; and now therefore be it,

 

Resolved, That I, Jennifer M. Granholm, Governor of the State of Michigan, do hereby proclaim the week of April 15, 2007, as Public Health Week in Michigan.
