Wigs 4 Kids Day

Whereas, Wigs 4 Kids is a nonprofit organization that reaches out to kids and teenagers through the age of 17 with hair loss in the state of Michigan; and,

Whereas, Wigs 4 Kids' main focus is on children or teenagers with the similar appearance-related challenge of losing their hair due to illnesses such as cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania, lupus, hydrocephalus, burns and other disorders; and,

Whereas, Children struggling to be socially accepted because of their physical appearance are given confidence by being provided a custom-fitted, age-appropriate wig.  Wigs 4 Kids works to cut and style each wig in order to help the child feel better about their appearance; and,

Whereas, These custom cut and styled wigs are provided to children at no cost to the family. This can be done by Wigs 4 Kids because it is solely funded on the basis of contributions and donations from caring individuals, businesses and organizations;

Now, Therefore, be it Resolved, That, I, Jennifer M. Granholm, governor of the state of Michigan, do hereby proclaim October 2, 2009, Wigs 4 Kids Day in Michigan.  I encourage all residents of this state to support the cause of Wigs 4 Kids in order to help children regain their self-esteem as they struggle for social acceptance based on their physical appearance while fighting off an illness.
