How does the State of Michigan identify Civil Rights violations?
The State of Michigan defines civil rights violations according to the Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act  which was enacted to define civil rights as well as to prohibit discriminatory practices, policies, and customs in the exercise of those rights based upon religion, race, color, national origin, age, sex, height, weight, familial status, or martial status.

The Michigan Civil Rights Commission was established to protect individuals from discriminatory treatment by the government or private citizens and organizations defined by federal, state, and local laws.
