Governor Appoints Sugerman to Michigan Women's Commission

LANSING – Governor Jennifer M. Granholm recently announced the appointment of Cheryl Sugerman to the Michigan Women’s Commission. Sugerman, of Ann Arbor, is a school teacher and middle school coordinator for Beth Israel Congregation.

The commission focuses on improving quality of life by studying and reviewing the status of Michigan women; directing attention to critical issues that women face; recommending methods to overcome discrimination; promoting methods for women to develop their skills; conducting surveys and establishing advisory committees on vital issues; and recognizing the accomplishments of women in Michigan.

Ms. Sugerman is appointed for a term expiring July 15, 2004. She succeeds M. Judith Garland who has resigned. This appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
