High Priority Schools

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is one of the cornerstones of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. Schools that have not made AYP for two or more consecutive years are in a phase of school improvement and are considered High Priority Schools. These schools receive support from the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) and acquire new responsibilities related to their phase of improvement.

Under NCLB, the type of consequences and support for High Priority Schools depends on if the school or district receives Title I  funding.   These schools are referred to as Title I High Priority Schools.  More information on both Title I and Non-Title I High Priority Schools is available below.

Technical Assistance Packets for Title I High Priority Schools

All districts with Title I High Priority Schools for the 2007-08 school year will receive a mailing outlining requirements and providing technical assistance for compliance.  If you have questions regarding the mailing, please contact the Office of School Improvement at 517-373-4140.
