Scholarship Opportunities For Migrant Students

Begin Early!! Start planning for your college program early in high school. In addition to completing the necessary coursework in high school and taking the appropriate qualifying exams, you can begin to investigate the criteria and requirements for grants and scholarships that may be available to you. We have included numerous links to scholarship sources. There is also information on scholarships for migrants who have not completed a traditional high school.

• HEPCAMP
The HEP helps migrant students who have dropped out of high school get their GED. CAMP assists migrant students in their first year of college with academic, personal, and financial support.

General Scholarships

• Do you need help completing credits for high school? Click on the links below for assistance.

• University of Texas - Distance Education Center
The courses offered by this program are designed to help certified high school migrant students earn the credits they need to graduate from high school.

• National Pass Center
The Portable Assisted Study Sequence (PASS) Program consists of self-contained, semi-independent study courses which enable students to earn secondary-level semester credits for high school graduation.

Hispanic / Latino Scholarships

• Sallie Mae Fund's Scholarship Program
Nearly 1,000 low income and minority students will be closer to achieving their college dreams this year, thanks to $2.3 million in scholarships from The Sallie Mae Fund

• American Stars of Teaching Program
The U.S. Department of Education again plans to honor outstanding classroom teachers through the American Stars of Teaching program. The Department's Teacher-to-Teacher Initiative is seeking nominations and information about teachers who are improving student achievement, using innovative strategies in the classroom, and making a difference in the lives of their students.

• Scholarships for Hispanics
The new updated 2005 Hispanic Scholarship Directory is now available from the National Hispanic Press Foundation (NHPF). This is the 7th Edition and includes over 1,000 ways with which to finance education.

• LULAC National Educational Service Centers
LULAC offers a variety of scholarships for high school seniors, undergraduate & graduate college students.

• ASPIRA Association
National nonprofit organization devoted solely to the education and leadership development of Puerto Rican and other Latino youth.

• The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute

• Hispanic Heritage Foundation
Celebrates and promotes Hispanic pride, culture, accomplishment and leadership through year-round national and regional educational and inspirational programs.
