For the fifth year in a row, Target continued its generous sponsorship of "Michigan Reads!", helping librarians, early childhood educators, parents, and caregivers with materials and ideas to help children develop literacy skills through play-based activities. The program also had additional support from the Library of Michigan Foundation, Sleeping Bear Press and the Taubman Corporation.

Frequently Asked Questions about Michigan Reads!

September and October are the months we concentrate on the Michigan Reads! program. We send out Michigan Reads! kits to all public library outlets (main libraries and branches), Head Start Programs, Great Start Readiness Programs, and public schools serving Kindergarten through second grade. These kits will include a hardcover copy of the year's book, a programming and resource guide filled with ideas to use in conjunction with the book; a poster, bookmarks, and stickers to use with the kids.

The information and program ideas on this site have been developed by librarians from across Michigan to help further the goals of Michigan Reads!:

to promote the value and benefits of reading early and often to preschoolers
to increase awareness and usage of Michigan's libraries
