The State Capitol received a generous gift of holiday decorations for the Governor's ceremonial office courtesy of Aldrich's Always Christmas store in Olde World Canterbury Village, Lake Orion, Michigan. The ornaments are designs inspired by internationally renowned artist, Peggy Abrams of Swartz Creek.
Peggy Abrams grew up on a farm and from the time she could hold a pencil she was sketching. Peggy's mother saved old wallpaper scraps and cereal boxes to give her canvas on which to draw. She even painted the family's outhouse. As a young girl, Peggy was inspired by old-fashioned dolls, lace, large hats and other ornaments of Victorian era. Today Peggy is famous for her Victorian Santas, flower arrangements and accessories in addition to her gardening and Christmas images.
Hundreds of student groups and other visitors are treated to a peek inside the Governor's office during their tour of the State Capitol.
