Look! Up in the sky…it's a bird…it's a plane…it's the SECC Good Guy! The annual State Employees Charitable Campaign (SECC) kicked off today with the launch of the SECC "Good Guy" video on You Tube. State of Michigan employees are celebrating 25 years of charitable giving by kicking off their annual campaign with a superhero nicknamed the "SECC Good Guy." The SECC Good Guy is involved in various humorous scenarios which answer the question, "Do you ever wonder how good gets done?" State employees received a joint letter promoting the campaign from Gov. Rick Snyder; Dan Wyant, SECC Campaign Chair; Tim McCormick, SECC Steering Committee Chair; and Ken Moore, SECC Steering Committee, representing labor.
The letter congratulates State employees for giving over $45 million to more than 1,200 charities since 1987. "Despite tough economic times, state employees consistently have donated money, time and effort, volunteering and advocating for the less fortunate. State employees' payroll deductions and contributions to the annual Charitable Campaign provide essential services-food, clothing, shelter and even educational opportunities-for individuals and families who really need help."
The State Employees Charitable Campaign traditionally kicks off in September and ends in October, although state employees and retirees have the opportunity to give throughout the year. Last year, State of Michigan employees and retirees gave nearly $1 million through SECC to over 1,200 charities, including 47 United Ways and 11 Federations.
