MARCH 11, 2010

Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land read to fourth-graders at Hamilton Elementary School in Hamilton today, marking the observance of March as National Reading Month.

Land, accompanied by the Dr. Seuss character the Cat in the Hat, read the children's book, "I Can Read With My Eyes Shut." It was written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss and describes the joys of reading.

"Reading aloud is one of the best things parents can do with their children," Land said. "It builds a lifelong interest in reading and helps children do better in school. I want to thank the teachers and staff of Hamilton Elementary School for allowing me to share my love of reading."

Land has taken time to read to schoolchildren during National Reading Month every year since assuming office in 2003.
