    Junkyard Permit

    The Michigan Department of Transportation issues permits to individuals operating a junkyard located adjacent to and visible from the State highway Right-of-Way.


    A. NAME OF PERMIT OR APPROVAL:

    Junkyard Permits

    B. STATUTORY AUTHORITY:

    Public Act 219 of 1966, as amended entitled Control of Junkyards Adjacent to Highways

    C. APPLICABLE REGULATION:

    Administrative Rules R247.101 - R247.109

    D. SUMMARY OF PERMIT/APPROVAL PROCESS:

     1.  Applicability (activities that require the permit)

    Anyone operating a junkyard adjacent to and visible from the State highway Right-of-Way shall obtain a junkyard permit.

     2.  Pre-Application Requirements

    None.

     3.  Application Submission Requirements

    The applicant shall complete, sign and submit Permit to Establish, Expand and/or Maintain a Junkyard, (Form 2241).

     4.  Procedures and Time-Frame for Obtaining Permit or Approval

    A complete and correct junkyard permit application is normally processed at the local Transportation Service Center. Processing procedures and time-frames vary depending on the local Transportation Service Center.

     5.  Operational Requirements

    Each permit holder shall operate according to all permit specifications, guidelines, special conditions and restrictions.

     6.  Fees

    No Charge.

     7.  Appeal Process

    If a permit is denied, the permit applicant may request an Administrative Hearing in writing in accordance with Public Act 306 of 1969, as amended entitled Administrative Procedures Act.
