DNR Urges Caution as Wildfire Season Returns to Michigan
Wildfire season has returned to areas of Michigan where winter snow has melted. A recent handful of warm, windy days has contributed to wildfires in southern and central portions of the state. Hunters, apply for your bear and elk license now through June 1
You may apply online or at any retail license agent. There are 200 elk licenses and 7,991 bear licenses available for the 2012 hunting season. You also can increase your odds of getting a license by applying for the Pure Michigan Hunt drawing — three lucky winners will receive a hunt package that includes both a bear and an any-elk license. Mention fish stocking to most Michigan anglers and the first species that come to mind are the cold–water fish – salmon and trout. But the Department of Natural Resources also expends significant time and resources stocking warm–water species, most notably walleye.

Building the Exhibits
Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at the DNR? Right now, museum staff in Lansing are building an exhibit to be installed at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park (a former U.S. Army post) in Copper Harbor in mid-June. Everything in the exhibit will be interactive, so kids can set the table, "cook" the stew and play games. Find out more about the park at www.michigan.gov/ftwilkins.
